I’m afraid Kirby is going to die.

It all started yesterday. I had just returned from the crafts store with a whole bunch of stuff and was ready to start a scrap book for my Advanced Drawing final. I was getting everything set up; all that was missing was my sketchbook. I went downstairs to grab my things when I heard Kirby at the door meowing rather consistently. Thinking he just wanted inside, I opened the door expecting him to slink into the house like normal. What I found instead I was not prepared for.

He was laying on the porch struggling to breath. When he inhaled, his quick gulps for air were short and shallow. When he exhaled, he would make a soft cry and you could hear he had some sort of congestion in his airway. I scooped him up and put him in the house, and ran to the phone to call my mom (who was out running errands) and tell her what was happening. When all that was said and done I rushed back over to Kirby to be with him. It was perhaps one of the hardest things I have ever had to watch.

He was on his side, mouth open. His abdomen was going crazy as he tried to get some sort of oxygen to his lungs.. he wasn’t moving otherwise. I immediately started bawling and began patting Kirby’s back hoping that it may miraculously dislodge whatever it was obstructing his oxygen flow. I just sat there, patting, sobbing, and repeating “come on, Kirby, please, please…” as if I could convince him to snap out of it. Eventually he started moving his tail like normal and began breathing out of his nose, however, his breathing was still labored and he was wheezing pretty hard. Even after my mom got home and he began moving around again, he was still having difficulty breathing.

His case hasn’t exactly improved, but I assume that is to be expected with such a serious cat-asthma attack. I really feel that we should take him to the vet to get a gauge on whether or not there’s anything we can do, or if we should be prepared to put him down. However, my mom’s refusing to take him anywhere, as she feels that taking him to the doctor would stress him out and trigger another full-blown asthma attack. She’s waiting for the vet to call her back with their opinion.

I’m feeling extremely torn apart right now. I’ve had Kirby since I was seven years old. He was my first pet and I got to pick him out and name him. He’s been a part of our family for so long and if he dies…I just don’t know what it’s going to be like without him here. I hate the idea of losing him now, especially when there’s so much other stuff going on, but I know I need to get my mind around the fact that it’s very probable that it could happen.

In any case, I don’t want him to go through what happened yesterday ever again, and if that means we’ll have to put him to sleep, it’s better than having him die from something so agonizing.

2006 - Here’s to looking back…

Where did I begin the year 2006?
Laying on my bed while talking to Michael on the phone.

2) What was my status on Valentine's Day?
Simply in love.

On my birthday…
I turned 17 and had a lovely dinner with my family.

What did I accomplish in school?
I completed my junior year and began my senior year at Redmond High School.

How did I earn money?
I worked part time at Eddie Bauer until May. After I had quit, I mooched off my parents when I was desperate.

Where did I go on vacation?
The annual summer trip to Seaside Oregon and Long Beach Washington.

What was the most expensive thing I purchased?
The mp3 player I bought Michael for his birthday.

Did you move anywhere?
I moved into my brother’s old bedroom. XD

What concerts or shows did I attend?
Coldplay at the Key Arena
Ben Folds at the Paramount Theatre
The Strokes at the Paramount Theatre
Beck, Death Cab For Cutie, Queens of the Stone Age, Matisyahu, and The Decemberists at The Gorge
Cirque De Soleil at Marymoor Park
Rooney at the White River Amphitheatre
The Decemberists at the Paramount Theatre

What is my most memorable moment?
My first year anniversary with the most wonderful person I’ve ever known.

What did I learn about myself?
I am really girly.

Where additions made to my family?
Michael! <3 Gadget, our new dog, and Hopkin, my pet frog.

What was my favorite month?
May. No doubt about it.

What music will I remember 2006 by?
Anything by ctrl f jesus.

Did I make a new friend?
CJ – the other me.

Did I reestablish an old friendship?
Yes! With Michelle; I’m so glad we started talking and passing notes again.

My Favorite night out was..
It’s a tossup between the night of The Strokes concert, the Homecoming fiasco, and The Maltby Cemetery adventure.

Do I have any regrets?
None.

Wow. What a kickass year.
